RCTLounge Hacked
It is unfortunate that I have to announce that on September 3rd, RCTLounge was hacked. I’m posting this myself in the wee hours of the morning to let everybody know what has happened with the site. As of now, the home page is unavailable as are our forums. Looking at the situation, no data has been lost, only the files. Park Thoughts is currently down as well. There is no time table as to when these issues will be remedied.

Especially that me and xen did not get home till around 2 am. Thats when I found the site to be hacked and coasterboi was on and I asked him if he noticed the site was hacked. Its assumptions like that that piss people off.

yeah Coasterboi told me about the site being hacked… while I was on it. Only the Homepage had be hacked at that moment. It had a lot of Arabic or Arabesque script on it but didn’t seem to follow much logic as I could tell.
Since we haven’t had an official public address yet from the site. I’ve made some questions that I think could be answered within such address. Just somethings off the top of my head that I’m sure would be answered even if I hadn’t mentioned anything.
At which point did we lose the forum?
I think the community would also like to know what personal information of ours was available to the hacker, In which we should take extra precaution accepting emails and the like.
Also you say no data loss just files, what kind of files are we talking about just HTML, or something more like files from the download section?
When we are back online will we still have all back logs and threads for the forums?
How much of the website is backed up to prepare for something like this, and will that change for the future?
Lastly what precautions does the site have available to them to prevent this in the future?

I was on the site last night when this happened! It is such a horrible thing to do! All I remember is I was looking at a thread and then all of a sudden, a page with “Saudi Arabian Hacker”. So that obvoiusly means it was not dfn because everything was written in Arabic.

Well, this sucks. I hope the site wont be down too long. It might not have been a Saudi Arabian Hacker. It could have just been someone who is trying to make it look like that. I don’t believe it is dfn. why would he try to destroy something uses regularly. I mean for a while he was the one keeping this site alive.

Again, another personal update. I’ve got a lot happening right now and it’ll require the efforts of ALL the admins to get this site up and running again. It probably won’t be for at least 2-3 days.

Iv’e heard that an Arabic hack team competes against a Chinese hack team to see who can hack most websites.
I saw it on TV a long time ago.
Since this looks like some arabs hacked this we are probally a part of the competition

vPyro was hacked last week by Nipz.org. Some people have asked who would hack an RCT3 site – that’s who.
They wiped out our home page and everything else, but all of our files were in tact thankfully. Perhaps your files are still safe.
Odds are, people hack the tiny video game sites because they are easy to crack. After the vPyro hack, I dug around and found a UK hacker’s forum, and it had all kind of tips and strategies and generators on how to hack admin passwords and entire sites, much like the Lounge’s case.
What it came down to with us was a completely new software/forum design. Brad upgraded to some new version, and all was well again. I wish you the best of luck, Doug.

well such is life everybody, we are just part of the game. I as well have heard about the competition between the japs and arabs. . . . .dumbasses, don’t they better stuff to do with their life rather than fuck with ours? Shit like this just PISSES me off!
I must say though Doug, you did an AMAZING job as a webmaster for this site! It turned out to be an absolute hit and I for one loved to come and chat with y’all. It was enjoyable to everyday check up on the site, see how everybody grows, watch people do what they do best, and watch us become a whole. I am quite glad to have been apart of the site, and I can’t WAIT! I hope that everyone here enjoyed what time we had together, and may God bless everyone!

Hello Everyone,
I have just received word on this hacking. I will start working at once to see what happened, and what we can do to fix it.
I can assure you that RCTLounge uses the best software available, and this hacking comes as much of a surprise to me, as it does to you.
The only thing that has been affected majorly is the Spotlight. We have lost all the images in the Spotlight, therefore we will have to start rebuilding the image inventory.
I’m very happy to see our databases still intact. The loss of our databases would be a severe blow to us, much more than losing our files.
I will continue to work on this situation. The Forums will be back up as soon as Pilot can reinstall them.

I know why they did it, to get a cheap thrill, but does that make the hacker cool? Hell no, honestly, I’m an RCT3/coaster geek which automatically means I have no life, and even I have to say that the hackers need to get a life.
On the plus side, it sounds like the lounge employees are doing a fantastic job of getting this back up!

Hey, all i just ran a virus scan on my computer and it detected something and quarantined it. Im not sure if it was from the hacker or not but id suggest running a scan on your computers.

(And Doug) I have noticed new stuff as well, on the internet thing where you type the adress, the rctlounge logo is there, i have a shortcut and the logo is on, the vBullitin thing is now blue at the top.

I know i basically completly left the site and left my account dorment since but once i heard about this i had to see… Good job with getting the site back up! and hope noeone gets suspicious e-mails because the hacker could of taken e-mails… even the e-mails that ppl put on there page…
